Russia spends record amount on Kremlin's international propaganda
Russia's Russia Today (RT) television channel spent 31.7 billion rubles on Kremlin propaganda abroad last year, a record in the channel's history and 4.2 billion rubles more than in 2023.
Notably, RT's budget is almost entirely state-funded. In 2024, the channel was allocated 28.6 billion rubles, and in 2025, this figure is expected to reach 31.1 billion. This amount is even higher than the annual budget of some Russian regions.
Last year, RT made a profit of 410 million rubles, a significant increase for the channel after a loss-making report in 2022.
However, RT has not publicly reported on how state funds are spent. In addition, the channel is focusing on expanding its Arabic-language audience.
