Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan discuss mutual recognition of ID cards
On January 31, officials from Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan discussed recognizing the ID cards of citizens of the two countries as official documents. If this change is implemented, citizens will be able to cross the border without a "forfeited" passport.
The main objectives of the discussion are:
Simplify and facilitate the movement of citizens;
Strengthening bilateral relations;
Expanding cooperation in the field of migration policy;
Development of trade, economic, cultural and tourist relations.
Recognition of ID cards will allow citizens to travel without a foreign passport and will strengthen integration between the two countries.
For information:
In August 2024, Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed mutual recognition of ID cards at a consultative meeting of the leaders of Central Asian countries.
Currently, citizens of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are using this practice.
If this initiative is implemented, citizens of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan will also be able to travel with simplified documentation.
