Turkmen gas to be delivered to Turkey via Iran

Turkmenistan and Turkey have agreed to supply Turkmen gas to Turkey via Iran, with transit carried out by the Turkish oil and gas company BOTAŞ.

Pipelines between Turkey and Iran may need to be upgraded to accommodate Turkmen gas. Turkey currently imports natural gas from Iran through the 14 billion cubic meters Tengiz-Ankara gas pipeline, but the pipeline is not fully loaded - Turkey receives only 9.5 billion cubic meters of gas from it.

Turkey can use this gas mainly for its domestic needs. At the same time, Turkey's Azerbaijani gas will be directed to Europe, and the European Union does not see the need to conclude new contracts for the purchase of Turkmen gas. Because the gas sources from which Europe receives gas, in particular Azerbaijan, have already concluded contracts as their reliable source.

The supply of Turkmen gas to Turkey via Iran is an important geopolitical and energy event not only for the two countries, but also for the region and Europe, creating new transit routes. Turkmenistan's energy resources will contribute to greater penetration of the European market, which is important not only for economic, but also for political relations.
