On the eve of the 34th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree pardoning a group of individuals serving sentences who sincerely repented of their actions.

The document pardoned 523 prisoners. Of these,:

195 individuals were completely exempted from punishment;
147 people - conditionally released early;
87 had their sentences commuted to lighter sentences;
94 people had their prison terms reduced.
Among those pardoned:

45 women;
31 people over 60 years old;
220 people under the age of 30, including one minor;
8 foreign citizens, including 6 from Tajikistan and 1 person from Sierra Leone;
15 are considered individuals who participated in the activities of previously banned organizations.

All prisoners will be placed on a preventive and probationary register. They will be provided with one-time financial assistance, medical examinations and treatment if necessary, assistance in finding a job, obtaining loans and subsidies, as well as assistance in obtaining civil documents.
