Head of Andijan detention center dismissed after ombudsman investigation
Following the Ombudsman's monitoring, disciplinary measures were taken against 6 employees of the temporary detention center in Andijan, the press service of the Oliy Majlis Representative for Human Rights reported.
The fact is that the regional representative of the ombudsman in Andijan region examined the conditions in the Izboskan district IIB temporary detention center and identified a number of shortcomings. In particular, serious shortcomings in sanitary and hygienic conditions and material and technical support in the detention center, problems with the sewage system, and cases of forced labor of some prisoners were noted.
The Ombudsman requested the Andijan Regional Department of Internal Affairs to take appropriate measures to eliminate the shortcomings and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
The Ombudsman was informed that, based on the results of the monitoring, a service inspection was ordered for 6 employees. In particular, the head of the temporary detention center was dismissed from the Internal Affairs bodies.
