Computer games given Islamic rating in Kazakhstan
The Religious Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan has assessed computer games from an Islamic perspective.
The board's statement said that Muslims are strictly prohibited from playing games that contain scenes of violence, murder, war, blasphemy, and mockery of Islam. This means that games such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and GTA, which are popular but contain content that is contrary to Islamic morality and objectionable, are not permissible for Muslims.
In addition, the department's experts reminded that gambling is also strictly prohibited for Muslim believers.
"The game should not contain gambling elements. Indeed, Allah Almighty blesses us in the Holy Quran: "O you who believe, intoxicants (drinking intoxicants), gambling (playing), idols (i.e. worshipping them) and divination (i.e. using sticks) are forbidden acts, the work of Satan. So keep away from each of them, that you may succeed." (Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 90)!" the statement says.
At the same time, the department added that some computer games are not harmful, but rather beneficial. Because such games develop thinking, logical thinking, and worldview, and serve to distract a person from everyday worries for a while.
