A prisoner preparing for a terrorist attack was arrested in Kazakhstan
The special services of Kazakhstan caught a prisoner who was trying to carry out a subversive act while in prison. It is said that sharp weapons, smartphones and other physical evidence were seized during searches of prisons.
The special services of Kazakhstan prevented a terrorist attack and stopped propaganda of extremism in prisons. This was reported by the press service of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan.
"On November 22, the National Security Committee, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office of Almaty region, put an end to the activities of 10 supporters of radical religious ideology in the institutions of the penal system in Alma Ota, Kastanay and Jetisu regions," the report said.
According to preliminary information, one of the defendants was preparing for subversive actions while in prison, participated in promoting terrorism and attracting people to organize terrorist activities.
It is noted that knives, smartphones and other material evidence were seized during searches of prisons.
One of the arrested was accused of extremism, while the others are serving sentences for murder, robbery and theft.
Investigative actions are being carried out against these persons in accordance with articles 255, 256 and 259 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. No other details of the investigation have been released.
