Zelensky: Ukrainian army lost more than 45,000 soldiers
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have lost 45,100 soldiers since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022. He said that 390,000 soldiers have been injured during this period. Zelensky made this statement in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.
In times of war, it is difficult to confirm or deny this information through independent sources. While Ukraine and Russia often make statements about their opponents' losses, they rarely release official figures for their own losses.
The last time an interim report was published in Ukraine was in 2023, according to which 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 370,000 were wounded.
Military analysts say both sides are underestimating their losses and exaggerating those of their opponents. Russia officially reported its losses in September 2022, when the figure was 5,973.
Western intelligence services estimate Ukrainian army losses at around 100,000, while losses on the Russian side could be around twice as high.
