The Kushtepa District Court in Fergana Region has sentenced a 22-year-old Uzbek citizen who fought on the side of Russia against Ukraine to a suspended five-year prison sentence. The court ruling stated that he made the decision due to his difficult financial situation and his mother's cancer.

The defendant fully admitted his guilt and admitted that he had entered into a contract with the Russian Armed Forces in order to improve his financial situation and obtain Russian citizenship. He participated in hostilities in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions of Ukraine since October 2023 and received medals and Russian citizenship for military service.

The court found him guilty under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code. In order to mitigate the sentence, his remorse for his actions and difficult family situation were taken into account. In accordance with the court decision, the convict was conditionally deprived of his liberty and a number of restrictions were imposed on him, including:

register with the Internal Affairs Directorate every month;

Stay at home from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM;

not being in entertainment venues.

Earlier, in a similar case in Uzbekistan, another citizen who fought in the Russian army was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months of restricted freedom after admitting to killing more than 10 Ukrainian soldiers during the war.
