Afghan Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar and a number of senior officials have secured a temporary lifting of UN Security Council sanctions, the Tolo news agency reported.

Baradar has reportedly been granted a 23-day leave of absence to undergo medical treatment in the Qatari capital, Doha. The head of the Central Bank of Afghanistan will also visit Russia from February 19-21, where he will participate in the Ural Forum on Finance and Cybersecurity.

Since the beginning of the year, the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee has also granted permission to travel abroad to the heads of the Afghan government's Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Religious Affairs.

The UN previously reported that poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has decreased by 95 percent under the current government.
