US President Joe Biden, contrary to his previous promise, pardoned his son Hunter Biden, who was accused of violating laws related to tax evasion and gun ownership.

In a written statement, the White House leader explained to the American public why he decided to use the pardon power.

The American leader recalled that from the first day of his office, he said that he would not interfere in the decision-making process by the US Department of Justice and tried to keep his word, but the Republicans "politicized" the process against him.

"Today I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the first day of my post, I said that I would not interfere with the decisions of the US Department of Justice. Even when I saw my son being unjustly persecuted, I kept my word. They tried to destroy me by trying to destroy Hunter. "Enough!", the president said.

According to Biden, the Republicans in the US Congress did everything in their power to use the case against him and went beyond the scope of justice. The case against Hunter Biden has become a weapon of "political revenge," the president said.

"I hope the American people will understand why the father and the president made this decision," Biden said.

The office of special prosecutor David Weiss, appointed by the US Department of Justice to investigate the charges against Hunter Biden, accused the president's son of tax evasion of $1.4 million in California.

According to the indictment, Hunter Biden evaded at least $1.4 million in federal taxes from 2016 to 2019 and filed false returns for 2018.

Instead of paying taxes on time, Biden is accused of spending his money on luxury hotels, expensive cars, drugs and prostitutes.

US President-elect Donald Trump called the pardon of Hunter Biden an abuse and a violation of justice.

Republicans in the US Congress are criticizing Hunter Biden for using his father's political position to benefit from overseas business deals, and the Justice Department for improperly slowing down the tax crimes investigation against the 54-year-old Biden Jr. Biden has denied all the charges against him.

On June 11, the son of the US president was found guilty by the court of violation of weapons regulations.

This decision was the first time that a close relative of the president was found guilty of committing a crime while his father was president.
