The Taliban has rejected Donald Trump's call to return nearly $7 billion worth of American weapons, Bloomberg reports.

The Taliban will not return any of the military equipment abandoned by US forces in 2021, a source familiar with the matter said.

On the contrary, the Afghan interim government has asked the United States for more modern weapons to combat ISIS-Khorasan.

Earlier, the US president threatened to cut off financial aid to Afghanistan if the South Asian country did not return American aircraft, air-to-surface missiles, transportation and communications equipment.

"Tell them that unless the Afghans return our military equipment, they won't get a single yellow card from us," Trump said.

It is noted that US troops fought in Afghanistan for more than 20 years without success. When they were forced to withdraw urgently, they were unable to remove more than $7 billion worth of military equipment.

The Taliban display military equipment seized from the Americans in an annual parade marking their return to power. Last year, diplomats from China and Iran also attended the event.

Despite Trump's rejection of the demand, the Afghan government wants improved relations with the United States and the return of more than $9 billion in frozen foreign exchange reserves by the White House.
