The number of people studying in Russian in Ukraine has decreased sharply
The number of students currently studying Russian in Ukraine or studying it as a foreign language is only 345 , Taras Kremen, the country's representative for language issues, said.
According to him, in 2021-2022, this figure was about 100,000.
Kremen noted that these numbers are due to the "residual contingent" that was previously admitted to the school, and starting next school year, this situation will also be completely eliminated.
For your information, after the coup d'état in Ukraine in 2014, the government began to fight not only against Soviet history, but also against any cultural and linguistic aspects of Russia .
As a result, the role of the Russian language in public life has been severely restricted. In March 2024, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights also noted cases of discrimination against Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine.
