According to the 2024 report by the European Community Against Islamophobia, the majority of victims of Islamophobia in the old continent remain women wearing headscarves. This issue is particularly frequently raised by ultra-nationalist politicians.

Of the 1,037 incidents of anti-Muslim hate crime recorded in Europe, 76 percent involved women and 24 percent involved men. 402 cases were directly related to discrimination due to headscarf.

The report also noted that discrimination against Muslim women is widespread, especially in educational institutions and the workplace.

In particular, restrictions on religious dress have increased in France and Belgium, leading to an increase in discrimination and violence against Muslim women.
