Russia is planning to reach South Asia through Afghanistan, Izvestia reported.

It is reported that an Afghan delegation will also attend the "Russia - Islamic World" forum to be held in Kazan in May.

Among the projects to be discussed at the forum are the TAPI gas pipeline (Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India) and the Trans-Afghan Railway.

According to the report, the projects will provide Central Asian countries with direct access to ports in the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean through the territory of Afghanistan.

The TAPI pipeline is designed to export Turkmen gas, while the TAPI-2 project is designed to supply energy resources from Russia. Zamir Kabulov, the Russian President's Special Representative for Afghanistan, noted that Afghanistan's rich natural resources and strategic location make it an important transit bridge between Russia, Central and South Asia, which creates great opportunities for regional cooperation.

The following railway projects will also be discussed at the forum:

Termez – Nayibobad – Logar – Kharlachi;

Mazar-i-Sharif – Herat – Dilaram – Kandahar – Chaman.

Their total length is 573 km and they have a cargo carrying capacity of up to 20 million tons per year.
