Panama Canal is under Chinese military control – Trump
Former US President Donald Trump made a sarcastic statement about the Panama Canal and the Chinese military in his Christmas address. He wished "the arrogant Chinese military who illegally control the Panama Canal" a Merry Christmas on his Truth Social page.
In his statement, Trump noted that the United States lost 38,000 lives during the construction of the Panama Canal and spent billions of dollars on its maintenance. At the same time, he criticized the United States' lack of authority to manage the canal, adding that it was time to correct this "injustice."
Trump's assertion that "Canada should become the 51st state of the United States" and his reference to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as "governor" also sparked widespread debate.
Trump's statement on the Panama Canal has sparked protests in the country. Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino reacted sharply to the statement, denying that it was an infringement on the country's sovereignty.
