The Hungarian parliament voted on April 14 to amend the country's constitution to state that "a person is either male or female."


Another legislative change supported by MPs would allow LGBT events in the country,


including a ban on the Budapest Pride parade.


Hungary recognizes the institution of marriage as a voluntary union between a man and a woman,


It also defends the family as the foundation of the nation's existence.


The family is based on marriage and the relationship between parents and children.


The amendments to the Hungarian constitution were supported by 140 parliamentarians, while 21 deputies opposed them.


In addition, the relevant changes were supported by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his FIDES party.
