Nearly 100 prisoners released in Afghanistan on Eid al-Adha
The authorities of Laghman province in eastern Afghanistan have announced the release of 91 prisoners from the central prison on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. The measure was taken as part of a special amnesty announced by the leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
According to Abdulmalik Niyazi, the spokesman for the regional governor, the sentences of 53 convicts have also been reduced. This initiative is part of the policy of giving second chances to those whose sentences are about to expire.
A few days ago, 317 prisoners were also released in neighboring Nangarhar province, and the sentences of 385 people were commuted.
