The Muslim charity iCare, based in Peterborough, UK, is providing assistance to local residents suffering from poverty as food prices rise. AboutIslam.net reports that the number of people requesting assistance is increasing dramatically.

The foundation operates out of the Khadijah Mosque in Peterborough and provides charitable assistance to people of all faiths and nationalities. iCare founder Aqil Khalil said that in 2024, the organization distributed 2,800 hot meals, 1,550 food parcels, and emergency kits.

"We are concerned that so many new people are asking for help. Unfortunately, some families are now forced to choose between buying food and heating their homes. This is true," says Khalil.

The organization was founded by two activists in 2021 and has since helped 60,000 people. Charity programs have distributed food, clothing, children's essentials, and hygiene products, as well as provided advice to residents on how to get out of the economic situation.

Khalil says that as the economic crisis deepens, the need for charity is also increasing. If before, people were ashamed to ask for help, now this situation is gradually decreasing.

"As the cost of living increases, the stigma against people seeking help is also disappearing. Among those who contact us are many families who have nothing to eat, people who need clothes for their children and medicine," he said.

The iCare charity continues to provide assistance to all those in need in Peterborough, regardless of nationality or religion.
