It has been reported that two employees working at the Israeli embassy in Washington were killed in an armed attack in the US capital, Washington.

US Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem said in a statement on social media that the two people killed were "stupidly" targeted near the Jewish Museum in Washington.

He said an investigation into the attack was underway, writing: "We will bring this despicable criminal to justice."

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel also issued a statement via X, saying the incident occurred near the FBI's local office in Washington.

According to Patel, the incident was responded to in cooperation with the police, and additional information will continue to be provided to the public.

The identity of the attacker and his motive have not yet been fully revealed. The investigation is ongoing.
