Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen ordered an immediate shutdown of electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip in order to "use all the means at our disposal to ensure the return of all hostages."

Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen has ordered an immediate halt to electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip, The Times of Israel reported.

"We will use all the means at our disposal to ensure the return of all hostages and ensure that Hamas is not in Gaza the next day," the minister said.

Israel also announced that it was cutting off goods to Gaza after Hamas refused to accept an offer to extend the initial phase of the ceasefire and hostage release agreement, threatening "further consequences" and a return to war.

Meanwhile, direct talks between the US and Hamas representatives were held in the Qatari capital Doha last week, without Israeli involvement. One of the Hamas leaders, Tahir al-Nunu, confirmed on Sunday that several meetings had taken place between the movement's leadership and the US special representative for hostage issues, Adam Buehler.

Al-Nunu stated that the main topic of the discussions was the issue of "releasing one of the prisoners who has dual citizenship."

According to Reuters, he noted that Hamas "has shown great compromise and a positive approach towards the interests of the Palestinian people."
