In Russia, migrants can only work in one job
A bill has been proposed in Russia to restrict the labor activities of migrants. According to it, foreign citizens will be required to work for one employer and will be deprived of the opportunity to work in several professions at the same time, Izvestia reported.
Under the proposal, for example, migrants working in the construction sector will not be able to take on additional work as taxi drivers or couriers.
The bill, proposed by the Ministry of Construction, is said to be aimed at addressing the shortage of construction workers and better controlling migrant labor. If approved, the law will come into effect in April 2025.
The bill has sparked some controversy. One construction industry expert said the measure could help prevent worker turnover in the industry, but it won't completely solve the problem of staff shortages.
However, issues related to the financing of the initiative and its implementation are still unclear.
If the law is passed, migrant workers in Russia will need to adapt to the new rules. This could be especially difficult for those who earn their living through a variety of professions.
Additional information on the adoption or rejection of the bill is expected to be released soon.
