EU agrees on roadmap for easing sanctions against Syria
European Union foreign ministers have approved a roadmap for easing sanctions on Syria, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas said.
In her statement, Kallas noted that sanctions imposed against the Assad regime in Syria are planned to be lifted in stages. The easing of sanctions will primarily concern sectors that will contribute to the country's recovery, in particular energy and transport.
"The European Union is committed to taking swift and concrete measures. However, if there are further wrong steps taken by Syria, this decision may be reconsidered," Kallas said.
The easing of sanctions is aimed at encouraging economic recovery in the country and is aimed at revising restrictions imposed by the European Union due to the civil war.
