Egypt to hold emergency summit on Gaza deportations
Egypt announced that it will hold an emergency Arab summit on February 27 to discuss US President Donald Trump's proposal to deport Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Egypt and Jordan have strongly rejected the plan. Jordan is ready to close its border and even declare war on Israel if the forcible resettlement of refugees begins, Middle East Eye reports, citing sources in Amman and Tel Aviv.
Arab states are developing an alternative plan that would involve large-scale reconstruction without displacing Gaza's population. The project could attract US and major Arab investors, and the reconstruction of infrastructure would also extend to Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Libya and Sudan.
More than 47,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the war began. According to the UN, almost all residential buildings in the region have been destroyed.
