German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier officially resigned the government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the first session of the new Bundestag yesterday, Dunyo AA reports.


According to Deutsche Welle, President Steinmeier has handed over official resignation letters to the Chancellor and 14 government ministers.


The ceremony took place at Bellevue Palace in central Berlin. In his speech, the President expressed his gratitude to Scholz and his team and praised their work.


At the same time, Steinmeier asked the chancellor and ministers to continue in their temporary positions until a new government is formed. According to the law, this arrangement is in place until the Bundestag approves the new government.


Recall that early parliamentary elections were held in Germany at the end of February. The conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) led by Friedrich Merz won. The new government is expected to be formed in the coming days.
