On February 26-27, 1991, the United States, in accordance with a UN resolution, bombed an Iraqi army convoy retreating from Kuwait. The 10-hour massacre killed more than 10,000 people, both military and civilians.

Iraqi troops withdrawing from Kuwait in accordance with UN Resolution 660 moved along Highway 80. The convoy consisted of 3,000 vehicles - trucks, jeeps, cars, ambulances and tanks.

US President George W. Bush ordered the merciless bombing of the convoy, despite the White House's promise not to attack retreating Iraqi forces.

For 10 hours, American planes killed thousands of Iraqis, both military and civilians. People were burned alive in the fire of airstrikes, their bodies were torn apart by explosions.

According to various estimates, about 10,000 people were victims of this mass murder.

"I've never seen anything like this even in Vietnam. It's just awful," said US Army Major Bob Nugent.
