Columbia University student wins lawsuit against US government
Yunso Chung, a student at Columbia University in New York, has won a court battle against the Trump administration and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Andolu news agency reported.
Previously, the Trump administration had tried to arrest and deport 21-year-old Yunco Chung for participating in pro-Palestinian protests on university grounds.
Chung later called the government's actions "an astonishing abuse of power" and decided to defend his rights in court, The Guardian reported.
The case was heard by Senior District Judge Naomi Lynn Rice Buchwald of the Southern District of New York, who ruled in favor of university student Yunso Chung.
The judge said authorities did not provide sufficient grounds or evidence to detain Chung. "Chung can now stop worrying about ICE agents coming to take her away at night," said Ramzi Kassem, one of her lawyers.
