China, Russia and Iran hold nuclear talks in Beijing
Senior diplomats from China, Russia and Iran met in Beijing to discuss Iran's nuclear program, days after Tehran rejected a US call to resume talks.
The talks were attended by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi.
At the meeting, aimed at reviving diplomatic dialogue and resolving deadlocked negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, China, Russia and Iran demanded the lifting of US sanctions, saying economic restrictions on Tehran were making dialogue difficult.
In particular, restrictions on Iran's oil exports and international financial transactions are severely affecting the country's economy. Russia and China see these sanctions as geopolitical pressure from Western countries.
While China and Russia seek to strengthen their position as an alternative power to US global leadership, Iran seeks to gain economic and political support through this cooperation.
