TRT reported that, amid widespread protests in support of Palestine in Bangladesh, the country's government has reintroduced a clause in passports that effectively bans travel to Israel*.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the following phrase will be re-inserted into passports: "This passport is valid in all countries of the world, except Israel*."

The relevant decree was signed by Interior Minister Jahongir Alam Chowdhury and officially entered into force.

Bangladeshi passports previously had such a restriction, but this clause was removed in recent years under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

After Hasina left power in August, amid escalating Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and mass protests, there has been growing demand in Bangladesh to reinstate a travel ban on Israeli passports.
