Artificial heart successfully implanted in 7-year-old boy in China
An artificial heart has been successfully implanted into a 7-year-old boy in China, Anadolu News Agency reported.
This operation was performed in May 2024, after the patient was diagnosed with a hereditary and chronic disease called "dilated cardiomyopathy" and a compatible donor could not be found.
The operation, which took place earlier this month and lasted about five hours, reportedly involved the child being implanted with an artificial heart weighing 45 grams and measuring just 2.9 centimeters in diameter, according to China's Xinhua News Agency.
The patient's medical condition is currently stable. The agency noted that this successful operation is a significant achievement not only in Chinese medicine, but also in the field of heart surgery worldwide.
