Kabul, February 4 - Mullah Muhammad Idris Anuri, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban), has responded to former US President Donald Trump's demand to return weapons abandoned by American troops.

Anuri said that if the US had had the opportunity to return these weapons, it would not have left them behind.

"If you could do that, you wouldn't have left these weapons with us," the Taliban spokesman said.

What did Trump say?

Trump has previously accused the Biden administration of making a "strategic mistake" in withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, criticizing the Taliban for leaving large amounts of military equipment and weapons behind. He has said that the weapons left in Afghanistan should be destroyed or returned.

A Taliban official said the US had left Afghanistan in disgrace, and that the weapons left behind were seized as "spoils of war."

There have been reports that thousands of modern weapons, armored vehicles, and air defense systems have fallen into the hands of the Taliban since the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. Washington has not officially commented on this.
